It’s not often that Meg Ryan steps out on the red carpet these days, but the 56-year-old actress wowed in a stunning white outfit at a prestigious Swiss film festival over the weekend.

The When Harry Met Sally star made a statement in this bold white frock as she attended day four of the 71st Locarno Film Festival on Saturday.

Meg looked effortlessly chic in the bright white dress which flattered her gorgeous figure, featuring a high neckline, three-quarter length sleeves and a pleated skirt.

The Hollywood star kept the look simple, complimenting the simple yet elegant gown with some understated jewellery and a pair of dark-tinted sunglasses.

Meg wore her blonde locks in waves, which sat just below her shoulders, and the Top Gun beauty kept her make-up understated, opting for a subtle glossy lip and a smoky eye.

The rom com star was honoured with the Leopard Club Award at the European film event, for her iconic roles in When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail.

Ryan has mostly stayed out of the public eye over the past few years and hasn’t been seen on screen since her 2015 movie Ithaca, which featured her long-time co-star Tom Hanks.

Hanks and Ryan have starred in a string of hits together, with films such as You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle propelling them to legendary status in the romantic-comedy genre.

Ryan made the swap from acting to producing and directing, and recently announced that she is working on her first rom com, which will be an adaptation of The Book, set in the publishing world.

She told Variety: “This is a working title project and I’m very excited about that. I would love to direct it. It’s a romantic comedy in a very traditional sense in some ways – in a certain way the plot, and it’s talky, but it pushes the form too.

“Right now I’m concentrating on being a director, which means throwing about 100 things at the wall and hoping they stick, right?”
