Cleaning the house is most likely not on everyones list of favourite things to do but the job can be made that much quicker and easier with the right products.

There will be no more meandering around the shops searching for the perfect washing powder or toilet cleaner thanks to Choice’s best and worst household products of the year list.

The consumer organisation has highlighted which products are the most beneficial and which it’s best to steer clear of if you want a sparkling clean house.

Choice spent more than 65,000 hours testing nearly 2,000 household products – from hair dryers and toasters to televisions and laptops – in order to determine which are the best buys.

First on the list was laundry detergent, with Coles Ultra Front coming out on top at 81 per cent. The product showed promising results in the stain removal test, whereas its competitor Supreme Heavy Duty Laundry Liquid was way off with a score of just 45 per cent – 4 per cent higher than just using water to clean clothes.

If you’re looking for a good all-round multipurpose cleaner then grab the Easy-Off Bam Power Cleaner Grease and Sparkle. The product, which scored an impressive 95 per cent, can be used on an array of surfaces whether its the kitchen or the bathroom.

Unfortunately, the list of the worst multipurpose cleaners was quite long with 13 of the 27 products tested scoring just 30 per cent – that’s almost as bad as cleaning with water alone, which managed a score of 29 per cent.

These products included Ecostore Multi-Purpose Cleaner Citrus, Ajax Spray N Wipe Divine Blends Orange Mountain Blossom and Aldi Green Action Eucalyptus Multi Purpose Cleaner.

Nobody likes cleaning the toilet but with Aldi Power Force Bright & Clean Oxy Thick Toilet Gel, Janola Power Clean Toilet Bleach Gel or White King Premium Bleach it won’t be too hard to get it sparkling.

You’re wasting your time and money if you buy Woolworths Essentials Toilet Cleaner or Coles Ultra Toilet Gel.

Windows sadly become dirty quite quickly so it’s smart to purchase a product that can leave them smear free. In this case Coles Ultra Glass and Window Cleaner and Glitz Glass Cleaner come out on top. Whereas Windex Mr Muscle Glass cleaner is an absolute no go.

Toilet paper is one of the most important items in the bathroom and things can turn pretty gross without a good product. Fear not, Quilton Shea Butter In Gold will do the trick. However, you shouldn’t waste your money on the Kleenex Complete Clean 4Pack.

It can be incredibly frustrating when you go to serve up a delicious dinner and the dishes are dirty but thankfully there is a product that will ensure this never happens. Earth Choice All in One Dish Tablets are the best option, but Earthwise Dishwasher Tablets should be avoided at all costs.

What are your thoughts on these results? What are your favourite household products?
