The one thing you should always turn off on your mobile phone

How much do you know about your mobile phone?

Mobile phones really are amazing.

They are not just a device to keep in contact with our nearest and dearest, it’s the way we get to keep in contact with the whole world.

Thanks to the internet and apps like Facebook and Instagram that we use on our smart phones we can stay connected no matter where we are.

Bluetooth is wireless connectivity technology that allows us to play music without cords and wires everywhere, and also to transfer data between devices. It’s how we are able to use our phones while driving in the car and not get  a ticket. It’s also a great tool used to monitor health conditions while we are at home too.

There’s only one problem when it comes to this technology though. It’s another way for scammers to get access to us.

There’s been a number of ways they’s done it so far, but one of the most common is known as BlueBorne. It is a bug that scans for Bluetooth devices and looks for vulnerabilities. You won’t even know it’s happening. The one good thing is that with Bluetooth you need to be in close range, within 10 metres, for it to actually work.

While tech companies have been able to create security patches for this one, there’s sure to be more scammers out there working on another variation.

How do you turn it on and off?

It really is easy. Simply to the the settings on your phone and find the word Bluetooth and turn it to off. Alternatively, if the Bluetooth logo is lit up at the top of your screen you might be able to swipe down and just tap it to disable it.

It’s also a good idea to make sure you download any updates for your phone when they become available to ensure you  have the latest defences on hand.
