Prince Charles has spoken out for the first time after spending a week in quarantine after being diagnosed with coronavirus.

On Wednesday, Clarence House shared a video of the Prince of Wales, 71, updating the public about his Covid-19 diagnosis since coming out of isolation earlier this week.

“Having recently gone through the process of contracting this coronavirus, luckily with relatively mild symptoms, I now find myself on the other side of the illness but still in no less a state of social distance and general isolation,” he said.

“As we are all learning, this is a strange, frustrating and often a distressing experience when the presence of family and friends is no longer possible and the normal stresses of life are suddenly removed.

“At such an unprecedented and anxious period in all our lives, my wife and I are thinking particularly of all of those who have lost their loved ones in such very difficult and abnormal circumstances and of all of those who are having to endure sickness, isolation, and loneliness.”

Prince Charles ended his message on an upbeat note, encouraging Brits to look forward to “better times to come”.

“None of us can say when this will end, but end it will,” he said. “Until it does, let us all try and live with hope and, with faith in ourselves and each other, look forward to better times to come.”

Many royal fans were quick to comment, with one writing: “Well said, sir! I am in awe of everyone who is carrying on their vital work for the benefit of us all! Glad you are feeling better.”

Another added: “What a wonderful speech. Heartfelt and very much appreciated by all I’m sure. Thank you.” While a third wrote: “Excellent message! So glad you’re feeling better.”

The news comes after Prince Charles ended his self-isolation after testing positive for coronavirus last week. Charles spent seven days self-isolating in Scotland after testing positive and displaying mild symptoms. The Duchess of Cornwall was also been tested for Covid-19 but did not have the virus, but will self-isolate until the end of the week.

The royal couple postponed their upcoming royal tour of Bosnia, Herzegovina, Cyprus, and Jordan in order to spend time at the Balmoral estate in Scotland amid the coronavirus outbreak. They have not yet set a date to return to their London home, Clarence House.

Meanwhile Her Majesty the Queen, and husband the Duke of Edinburgh, recently relocated from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle, over fears that the heavy foot traffic through the monarch’s primary residence could potentially put the Queen, 93, and Prince Philip, 98, at risk.
