Patti Newton’s heartache and grief has been put on display for all, sharing a previously unseen image of the late, great Bert Newton to her Instagram on Tuesday, January 18.

The sweet picture Patti shared depicted Bert, beaming and alert, relaxing in a hospital bed. The picture is undated, and the location is unknown, except for that Bert is clearly receiving healthcare, maybe for his toe or subsequent leg amputation. Bert’s hospital gown reads ‘Princes’, matching another picture of Bert in hospital in November 2020.

Patti has left a caption off of this image, further enhancing her devastation and grief – all of Patti’s other Instagram posts share heartfelt sentiments about the images she is sharing.

A number of fellow Australian A-list celebrities have left sweet comments sharing love with Patti and her family.

Georgie Parker commented “Sending love to you and all the family darling ❤️❤️❤️,” while Angela Bishop left three red heart emojis, and Danielle Spencer shared “Lots and lots of love Patti ♥️”.

Bert and Patti’s daughter Lauren recently shared a touching tribute to her father, as she and the rest of the Newton family rebuild their lives without patriarch, Bert.

Lauren’s letter read: “I miss everything about him, but his smile and the fun we had is at the top of the list. I hope I told him enough how much I loved him. I always felt his love for me and I hope he felt mine.”

Australia’s brightest television star died after a long battle with declining health while he was undergoing palliative care at a private clinic in Melbourne. He was given a Victorian state funeral on November 12 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in East Melbourne.

Daughter, Lauren, and son, Matthew, both wrote touching eulogies for their father, read by Bert’s long time colleague and friend Peter Smith OAM.
