When it comes to fashion, Princess Mary always knows how to make an entrance. The 46-year-old made sure all eyes were on here overnight as she stepped out in a truly elegant gown to celebrate Prince Frederick’s 50th birthday.
The couple, who hosted an event at a luxurious Copenhagen Palace with Queen Margrethe, were joined by some of the biggest royals across Europe.
While Prince Frederick opted to wear his traditional military uniform for the gala, Princess Mary was every inch the royal in a glistening ball gown. Light reflected off the mother-of-four’s heavily-sequinned pink number.
If that wasn’t enough, she even wore a tiara and a truly exquisite pair of earrings for the event. The pair were all smiles, while Princess Mary’s mother-in-law Queen Margrethe also attended the lavish party.
Being sure not to clash with her daughter-in-law’s style, Queen Margrethe opted for a darker pink gown for the festivities. The event was also attended by monarchs of Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland, Norway, Sweden, and Greece.

Perhaps one of the most memorable moments of the banquet was when Princess Mary gave an emotional speech in honour of her husband, who she described as “a father-of-four”, “naval special force soldier”, “art and music lover”, “military man”, “sportsman”, “my man”, “business ambassador”, “son”, adventurer”, “Greenland explorer”, “brother” and “good friend”.
“How does one in words capture a person like you?” she asked. “Without leaving out too much of what makes you, you… I have pondered over this many times as this day has approached. You are a person of many dimensions. – Complex and straightforward at the same time.”
She said her husband was truly himself and that he always pushed the boundaries. She also paid tribute to Prince Frederick’s late father.
“You have lived by your father’s approach to life,” she said. “That in the unconventional and in the surprising there is often a hidden treasure.”
She also thanked her husband for truly accepting her into his world.
“We have become so close by giving each other space. And you in particular have supported me in finding a foothold and my way in the world that was yours and is now ours.”
Meanwhile, Queen Margrethe also gave a speech for her son.

“You stand, as you say, in the middle of life,” she said. “You have achieved a lot, and you have experienced a lot, and these days you have felt how all Denmark cheered up on you and look forward to your deeds. You are in favour of everything you have to do, and it sets traces wherever you come.”
Earlier in the day, the royal couple posed for photographs with their four children – seven-year-old twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, along with Prince Christian, 12, and Princess Isabella, 11.

Princess Mary has made several public appearances over the past week. She was spotted at the unveiling of her husband’s new portrait earlier this week and wore a stunning white number for another royal event.
