If there’s any series fanbase more spoiled with a ton of upcoming material, it would be that of hit Netflix period drama Bridgerton.
Based on the Julia Quinn novels, the show, which just wrapped up its second season and is currently in production for its third season, still has five more Bridgerton siblings’ love stories to cover.
Then, beyond the siblings, there are several members of the Ton who have quickly become fan favourites- all led by the gossip-hungry, extravagant-haired Queen Charlotte.
Now, the team behind the saucy drama are bringing a new spin-off series to Netflix which focuses on the origins of everyone’s favourite queen.
The streaming giants announced the news of the upcoming series last May, with director Shonda Rhimes set to write and produce the Queen Charlotte origin story. The upcoming limited series will cover the rise of the young Queen Charlotte and explore her betrothal to King George.
The show will also highlight the societal shift that followed the couple’s marriage. As Lady Danbury had previously mentioned in season 1, their marriage opened the door for upper-class people of colour to enter society.
Audiences will also be introduced to a young Lady Danbury and young Lady Bridgerton, ensuring fans get the origin stories of all three favourite Bridgerton elders.

“Many viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton brought her to the world, and I’m thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton,” Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s head of global TV, said.
“Shonda and her team are thoughtfully building out the Bridgerton universe so they can keep delivering for the fans with the same quality and style they love.
“And by planning and prepping all the upcoming seasons now, we also hope to keep up a pace that will keep even the most insatiable viewers totally fulfilled.”
Fans will also be delighted to hear that the original actresses Golda Rosheuval (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), and Ruth Gemmell (Violet Bridgerton) will be reprising their respective roles in the new spin-off.
As for their younger versions, Netflix announced that British actress India Amerteifio has been cast as the young Charlotte along with newcomer Arsema Thomas who will be playing a young Agatha Danbury.

A youthful King George will be played by Corey Mylchreest, and fans of the mega-hit fantasy series Game of Thrones may also recognise actress Michelle Fairly who will be playing his power-hungry mother, the Dowager Princess Augusta. While the young Lady Bridgerton has yet to be cast.
While it is understood that filming for the upcoming spin-off is underway, Netflix is yet to release the official date for when the show will be available for streaming. A teaser trailer and official trailer for the unnamed spin-off are also yet to be seen.
