When it comes to fashion Meryl Streep knows how to keep it simple, rarely putting a step wrong when it comes to selecting an outfit and her latest ensemble was no different.
The 69-year-old Mamma Mia! star looked polished as she posed on the red carpet at an event in her hometown of New Jersey, USA, on Saturday night.
Streep was attending An Evening With Stephen Colbert & Meryl Streep at the New Jersey Performing Arts Centre where she sat down with chat show host Colbert in front of an audience of fans to raise money for local non-profit Montclair Film.
Wearing a stylish yet sophisticated monochrome outfit, Streep looked effortlessly chic in a pair of palazzo pants which featured vertical black and white stripes. She teamed the statement trousers with a white asymmetrical shirt and a black cropped jacket.
Completing her look, the three-time Oscar winner carried a black clutch bag and wore her ash blonde hair in a sleek style, which she swept behind her ears.
She has made no secret of the fact that she is far from a fan of current US President Donald Trump and used the opportunity on stage on Saturday to discuss her “fears” about the American leader.
“I’m scared. I can’t imagine what his 3am is like,” she said. “There’s a gathering storm. Everyone feels it. He feels it. His children are in jeopardy.
“[If it were my children] I would do anything to get them out of trouble. So we should be afraid.”

Streep will be back on the big screen in Mary Poppins Returns which will be released in cinemas across Australia on New Year’s Day 2019.
She plays the famous flying nanny’s cousin Topsy in the sequel to the 1964 Disney classic, who has been billed as perhaps the only person ever to disagree with Mary Poppins, who is played by Streep’s The Devil Wears Prada co-star Emily Blunt.
Speaking about the role last night, she said: “In Mary Poppins Returns, I play Mary’s cousin, a very screwed-up character. The movie is just great, but it’s not my movie. It’s Emily Blunt’s and Lin Manuel’s. A little tiny gift to America… at Christmas.”
