His gushing bride-to-be added: “It was just a cosy night. What were we doing? Just roasting chicken.”

Who would have thought that that’s how the Prince would propose?

Ms Markle continued: “It was just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet and natural and very romantic.”

The former actress revealed that Prince Harry did get down on one knee and that it was an instant yes.

“As a matter of fact, I could barely let you finish proposing,” she said as she looked lovinging into the 33-year-old’s eyes.

He added: “She didn’t even let me finish. She said, ‘Can I say yes? Can I say yes?’ and then there was hugs and I had the ring in my finger and was like, ‘Can I give you the ring?’”

The moment was private between the happy couple, with Prince Harry feeling proud that he caught Ms Markle by surprise with his proposal.

They said they were first introduced by a mutual friend but said they were going to protect their privacy.

Prince Harry said they did have two back-to-back dates in London last July and after four weeks went on holiday to Botswana.

He said that it was “crucial” that the two had some alone time to properly get to know each other.

The pair are expected to wed next Spring, with further details to be revealed in due course.
