In a year that has seen two British royal weddings, the Queen threw yet another lavish party this week as she marked the 70th birthday of her eldest son and heir Prince Charles, with royals from across the world flocking to London to celebrate.

Princess Mary and husband Crown Prince Frederik were among those invited to the extravagant party, which took place at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday evening, in honour of her and Prince Philip’s eldest son’s milestone birthday.

Oozing class and elegance, the Danish crown princess looked sensational in a fitted black velvet gown, showing just a flash of flesh thanks to the frock’s unique one-sleeved design. The royal wore her hair pulled back into an elegant low pony tail and kept her make-up natural, with a coat of pink lip gloss and subtle dark eyeshadow.

She completed the sophisticated look with a glamorous pair of large drop earrings, which featured large black jewels and a floral design, and matched perfectly with the simple black and gold belt she wore around her waist.

In a photo posted to the Danish royal family’s official Instagram account, Mary can be seen holding hands with her husband Crown Prince Frederik, who looks smart in a simple yet stylish navy suit, which featured black lapels, paired with a crisp white shirt, black bow tie and white pocket square. The image was captioned: “Last night, Crown Prince paired guests at HM Queen Elizabeth of Britain’s celebration of the HKH Prince of Wales’ 70th birthday at Buckingham Palace in London.” (sic)

Prince Charles’ wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also dressed to impress for the occasion, stepping out in an elegant navy blue ball gown, which was far removed from her usual choice of muted colours and light, floaty fabrics.

The duchess beamed as she posed next to her husband on the eve of his 70th birthday celebrations, ahead of the lavish party thrown by the heir to the throne’s mother Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

A host of family members, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, attended the bash, along with several members of royalty from around the world. Newlywed Princess Eugenie was also in attendance with her husband of one month Jack Brooksbank.

As well as the Danish crown prince and princess, Queen Rania of Jordan, Prince Albert II of Monaco, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain also turned out for the momentous occasion.

The party was just one of the ways in which the Prince of Wales celebrated the big birthday as, earlier this week, the palace also released two intimate photographs of Charles with his entire dynasty, including both sons, his two daughter-in-laws, wife and three grandchildren.
