Rod Stewart might just be one of the most down-to-earth music artists in show business!

The 72-year-old recently surprised a busker in London by performing with him in the bustling theatre district of the city.

Onlookers in the West End were shocked when Stewart randomly hopped out of a car and started singing with the aspiring singer.

The busker, Henry Facey, was smiling from ear to ear as he strummed his guitar while Stewart belted out a moving rendition of Manfred Mann’s ‘Handbags and Gladrags’.

Fans of Stewart will recall that he famously covered the track himself way back in 1969.

How time flies!

The pair rocked out in front of the iconic Piccadilly Lights, much to the delight of tourists who were visiting the London landmark.

Many pulled out cameras and phones to capture the moment, in shock that a music icon was in their presence.

The ‘Baby Jane’ singer uploaded a video of his performance to Instagram and explained that the song meant more than surprising his fans.

He said it was part of a photography project by Alistair Morrison and Roger Daltrey for the Searching for Apollo series.

The art project features over 60 music legends pictured as street performers to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America foundation.

Given that the ‘Rhythm of My Heart’ singer was diagnosed with thyroid cancer 17 years ago, it’s a charity that is very close to his heart.

Fans online were quick to praise the rock legend for his performance.

One person wrote: “So amazing. I wish I was one of the lucky ones to bump into you.”

We’re secretly hoping he takes to the streets of our neighbourhood for his next performance.

What do you think of Rod’s emotional performance? Have you ever randomly spotted a celebrity in public?
