The British Royal Family has a long tradition of passing down favourite family names to their younger members, and it seems this new generation of Windsors are no different.

From King Edward VI naming his eldest son Albert after his late father to King Charles III naming his son William after his favourite cousin, the royals have made sure to name their children after those close to their hearts.

It therefore should come as no surprise when Mike Tindall admitted his son’s middle name held a very special meaning for both him and wife Zara.

Their youngest child, Lucas aged three, boasts the middle Philip which is a dedication to both Zara’s grandfather, the late Duke of Edinburgh and Mike’s father, who is living with Parkinson’s disease.

Tindall is a patron of Cure Parkinson’s Trust and revealed on Good Morning Britain how hard it has been for his father and their family.

“It’s difficult for everyone who has it to come to terms with losing that strength,” he said.

“He’s had to adapt to a lot in the last few years.”

Tindall explained that his father was a former rugby player who used to be an active grandfather to his older daughter Mia,10.

“He still wants to get out there with Mia. Unfortunately, he can’t do it at the level he wants to – his brain wants to,” he explained.

“You can see it’s frustrating for him. I would love to see my dad regain what he’s been losing over time.”

While the Duke of Edinburgh may not have been as active in his later years, he left a lasting legacy with his grandchildren.

In a heartwarming revelation during the BBC documentary, Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers, Princess Eugenie opened up about the extraordinary bond she shared with her late grandfather, Prince Philip.

The Princess delved into the connection she had with the Duke of Edinburgh, shedding light on two poignant moments that showcased the depth of their relationship.

Eugenie recalled a touching moment when she introduced her newborn son, August, to Prince Philip.

“We named August, August Philip because grandpa had been such a huge, inspiring character in my life,” she said.

“I brought little August to come and meet him and told him that we’d named him after him and it was such a lovely moment. We were very lucky to do that.”

Beyond the name, Princess Eugenie reminisced about a thoughtful wedding gift bestowed upon her by her grandfather on her special day in 2018. Prince Philip, known for his various hobbies, including a lesser-known love for painting, gifted Eugenie a handmade painting of flowers.

“It was so nice, it’s now sitting in my house in London and I’m so proud of it, you know?” she said.
