It’s rare for a celebrity marriage to stand the test of time nowadays, but singing sensation Rod Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster have defied the odds, maintaining their loving marriage for an impressive 17 years.
The devoted couple recently revealed the secret to their successful partnership and the key to their long-lasting marriage.
“We love life and make date nights for one another, among touring and family time,” Stewart told HELLO!
“We listen to each other and try to resolve all our disagreements, the dirty laundry as Penny says, right away, and before we go to bed.”
Lancaster stressed the need for “healthy attraction” in a successful relationship.
“Rod and I can have dinner in a crowded room or just the two of us – we always have eyes for each other. There’s this look, this connection, this message without words,” she said.
As well as maintaining a happy and loving marriage, Stewart has enjoyed decades of success in his singing career and the 79-year-old has no intention of taking his foot off the pedal.
“I don’t see any possibility of slowing down anytime soon,” he said.
“And as I get older, I only really want to do things that give me great pleasure.”
Lancaster added that her husband “loves what he does so much and will never retire”.
“He’s a workaholic and constantly on the move. I struggle to keep up with his training schedule. He works out three or four times a week – even on tour.”
The music legend recently offered some insight into his fitness routine, inspiring both fans and fellow musicians to embrace a healthy lifestyle in an interview with People.
When not wowing fans with his stellar performances, Stewart can often be found at home in his swimming pool, engaging in invigorating underwater SAS training, a program designed to enhance athletes’ readiness for the British Special Air Service.
“You have a big rubber brick, and you’ve got to swim the length of the pool and push it the length of the pool, on the bottom of the pool,” he told the publication.
“It’s really wonderful. Well, sometimes it’s not wonderful because I don’t want to do it, but I’d say it’s fun.”
Even amid his demanding tour schedule, Stewart remains committed to his physical well-being. The legendary musician ensures that he incorporates training or workouts into his routine four days a week, engaging in activities such as running on his personal track or indulging in a spirited game of soccer.
“I work out extensively,” he said.
“But I’m generally very fit. I’ve played soccer all my life, and I don’t smoke. It’s funny, critics keep saying on this tour, ‘Oh, he’s gone off the stage to have a rest.’ No I haven’t! I’ve gone off the stage because I’m wringing wet. I’m so bloody fit, you won’t believe it.”
