The Queen has revealed details about her recent battle with Covid-19 during a virtual visit to the Royal London Hospital on Wednesday, April 6 for the official opening of the Queen Elizabeth Unit.

During the virtual engagement, the 95 year old Monarch listened to stories from former patients and hospital staff regarding their experience with the pandemic.

Her Majesty revealed that the virus “does leave one very tired and exhausted” while chatting with former Covid-19 patient, Asef Hussain.

“This horrible pandemic. It’s not a nice result,” she said.

The Queen also acknowledged and sympathised with both patients and hospital staff regarding the isolation they endured as the virus spread across the country.

“It must have been a terrible time for all of you,” the Queen said.

“Not seeing your own families and also working so very hard. That [was] the unusual part of it wasn’t it, not being able to meet your relatives and being isolated.”

Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, February 20th.

According to the announcement, she had been experiencing “mild, cold-like symptoms” but was expected to continue to undertake “light duties” from her home in Windsor.

“She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all appropriate guidelines,” the palace said at the time.

The Monarch’s first public appearance after contracting the virus was on March 29 when the Queen joined members of the Royal family in a memorial service honouring her beloved husband Prince Phillip at Westminster Abbey.

The Queen was reportedly heavily involved in the planning of the service which featured elements such as hymns and special tributes from family and friends that were banned during Prince Phillips’s funeral last year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

In a touching and subtle gesture to Prince Phillip’s lively colour, the Queen along with Camilla and Princess Anne all wore dark green attire. The Queen also wore a gold, ruby, and diamond brooch, which Phillip gave her in 1966.

Approximately 1800 family members and guests were in attendance for the memorial.
