The British Royal Family have marked a poignant UK Mother’s Day this year, their first without the beloved Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on September 8th, 2022.
King Charles III was among the first to reflect on the occasion with a post to The Royal Family’s Instagram page.
The Monarch shared a childhood photo in which he can be seen standing on the late queen’s lap, sourced from the Royal Collection Trust. The post also featured a second image of the Queen Consort Camilla and her mother, Rosalind Shand, who passed away in 1994.
“To all mothers everywhere, and to those who may be missing their mums today, we are thinking of you and wishing you a special,” the caption read.

The post received somewhat of a mixed response from Royals fans with many questioning the inclusion of the Queen Consort, Camilla in the post.
“Perhaps King Charles could have posted about the mother of his children, rather than Camilla and her mother,” one person wrote.
“Love these pictures! Thanks for sharing! Happy Mothers Day, UK! Ours (US) isn’t until May 14.”
“The second slide was unnecessary!!!”
“Lovely photos of Their Majesties with their beloved late mums. Thank you for sharing. Thinking of them today.”
The King wasn’t the only one to mark Mother’s Day, the Prince and Princess of Wales also took to social media to share a heartwarming family photo.
The royal couple shared two photos on the day, the first showing Catherine and her children sitting together in a tree and a second in which she holds her youngest son Prince Louis in her arms.
“Happy Mother’s Day from our family to yours,” read the caption.

The happy family snaps received a much more positive response from fans compared to Charle’s Mother’s Day post.
“Happy Mother’s Day to you Catherine. It is so clear to see through the pictures how wonderful and doting mum you are have an amazing day,” one person wrote.
“Happy Mother’s Day to our lovely Princess, a wonderful mummy to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and baby Prince Louis.”
“I am soo grateful you let is peek into your family’s moments!”
“Such a pretty family! You guys are so lucky to have each other! Happy Mother’s Day to you dear Princess and to your incredible children! Love from France!”
This Mother’s Day marks one of the many emotional holidays the Royal Family have continued to celebrate without their beloved Queen.
