‘Mummy!’ Queen’s amazing response to Charles’ 92nd birthday tribute

It’s you kids’ job to embarrass you on your birthday, and that doesn’t stop at the royal family – with Prince Charles stepping up to pay tribute to his mother, the Queen, on her 92nd birthday on Saturday night.

The monarch celebrated her big day with a star-studded concert, attended by the entire royal family – minus Prince Philip and the Duchess of Cambridge, who was forced to miss it as she awaits the birth of her third baby.

Taking to the stage following performances by everyone from Kylie Minogue to Sir Tom Jones and Sting and Shaggy, Charles gave a short speech before asking for three cheers for the monarch.

However, it was his opening that caught the attention of viewers, as he referred to the Queen as “mummy” – prompting her to give a very obvious eye roll in response.

Beginning with “Your Majesty”, he paused before adding: “Mummy” which got laughs from the crowd. As the camera zoomed in on the Queen’s face, she lifted her eyebrows and rolled her eyes before laughing too.

Asking for three cheers, he added: “I have a feeling that in 1948 when you were 22, you didn’t somehow expect at your 92nd birthday to find your son in his 70th year.

“So, just able still to raise a small hip, hip… would you please give your majesty three unbelievably rousing cheers on her birthday.”

Viewers rushed to Twitter to share their delight at the very human moment from the Queen, with one commenting: “THE QUEEN’S EYEROLL AT CHARLES IS TOO MUCH,” while another added: “Even Liz rolled her eyes at Charles calling her “Mummy”. #QueensBirthdayParty.”

One more wrote: “The Queen’s eye roll at Charles calling her ‘mummy’ [laughing emoji].”

While Tom Jones kicked things off with his hit It’s Not Unusual, he was followed by a host of other big names as the royal family – including Prince William, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – watched on from the royal box.

The Queen stole the show in gold at the Royal Albert Hall, and gave the crowd her signature wave and a beaming smile following huge applause.

Meanwhile, Meghan looked sensational in a navy cape dress, choosing to wear her hair pinned in a loose up ‘do as she smiled down from the balcony.

Harry also took to the stage to pay tribute, saying: “Tonight we are celebrating the Queen’s Birthday but Your Majesty, if you do not mind me saying, you are not someone who is easy to buy gifts for. But I think we have the perfect present.” He was reportedly referring to the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust charity, to which he was appointed president last week.

Meanwhile, William appeared very relaxed as he arrived solo, as his wife Catherine is due to give birth any day now.

While the couple never confirmed an exact due date, it’s been claimed the duchess is due in mid-April, and barriers are already up outside the hospital she’s due to arrive at when she goes into labour.
