Princess Eugenie shares first look at baby boy, reveals special name

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank welcomed a baby boy into the world last week, and now the new parents have revealed his name, and it pays tribute to two members of Britain’s royal family.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, which included three photos of the newborn’s face, Eugenie announced that their son’s name is August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

The name pays tribute to Eugenie’s 99-year-old grandfather Prince Philip, who was admitted to hospital last week. The name is also a nod to Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert, whose full name was Franz Albert August Karl Emanuel, the princess explained in her Instagram stories.

“We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank,” Eugenie captioned the Instagram post. “Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express. We are excited to be able to share these photos with you – by our wonderful midwife. Thank you to the wonderful essential workers, including our midwife, who came to discharge our boy.”

Fan of Eugenie’s were quick to comment on the sweet post, with one writing, “Oh August! Couldn’t love these pictures more.” Another added, “Congratulations! Welcome baby August! And he’s so cute. I’m so happy for you!” While a third wrote, “August is a beautiful baby! Congratulations to you both! I’m sure his great grandfather will be so delighted. God bless your beautiful family.”

Eugenie’s Mum, first-time grandmother Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson, also took to Instagram to congratulate her daughter and son-in-law on their new arrival. “As grandparents, the Duke and I are thrilled and blessed at the arrival of our grandson August Philip Hawke Brooksbank,” she wrote. “He is a beautiful blessing and a bringer of such love and joy to all our family. I am so proud of Jack and Eugenie, they are and will be wonderful parents.”

August was born on February 9 at The Portland Hospital in central London, weighing 3.6 kilograms.

A statement from Buckingham Palace at the time said the Queen, Prince Philip, Eugenie’s parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah, and Jack’s parents were all “delighted” by the happy news. “This is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s first child, The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York’s first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh,” the statement read. “Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
