All eyes are on the British royal family following Prince Harry and Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in California on Sunday night (local time).

Harry and Meghan didn’t hold back during the 90-minute interview, with talk of jealousy, a lack of support from the royal family, and even relationship breakdowns. However, one of the most shocking revelations concerned the couple’s son Archie, and his mixed race. Meghan said there were palace “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born”.

When pressed for more information on who said what, Meghan said “it would be very damaging” to reveal who expressed those concerns and declined to name them. But now, Oprah has revealed that Harry told her it was neither Queen Elizabeth II nor Prince Philip who asked the questions about Archie’s skin colour.

“[Harry] did not share the identity with me but he wanted to make sure that I knew and if I had an opportunity to share it that it was not his grandmother nor his grandfather who were a part of those conversations,” Oprah said on CBS This Morning Monday morning (local time).

On the other side of the world, the UK is up in arms over the explosive chat, with the majority of British tabloids hammering the former royals. The Daily Mail clearly didn’t want to miss anything, opting for the super-long headline: “Meghan claims she was suicidal when she was 5 months pregnant, Kate made HER cry and Royals refused to make Archie a prince because they were worried how ‘dark’ he would be, as Harry reveals their new baby will be a GIRL”. The Sun went with “Meg: I felt suicidal”, and created the new nickname “Megxile”. (When the couple first announced they were stepping down as senior members of the royal family last year, British tabloids labelled the pair’s decision “Megxit”.)

Meanwhile, English broadcaster Piers Morgan, who’s made it pretty clear in the past that he’s not the Sussexes biggest fan, had much to say about the interview, tweeting, “This interview is an absolutely disgraceful betrayal of the Queen and the Royal Family. I expect all this vile destructive self-serving nonsense from Meghan Markle — but for Harry to let her take down his family and the Monarchy like this is shameful!”

Ingrid Seward, royal expert and editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, told The Post the British public was “horrified” by the interview. “The mere thought of these two incredibly privileged people sitting in the California sunshine moaning about their lot does not appeal,” she said. “People have been dying, Britain is in lockdown and we’re in the worst financial crisis we’ve ever had. It’s really so much better to say nothing if you’re dissatisfied.”

So far, Harry and Meghan seem to be unaffected by the whole ordeal, with the photographer behind the couple’s maternity shoot sharing a new photo of the happy family just hours after their sit-down with Oprah. During the interview, Harry and Meghan also revealed their new baby’s gender – a girl – and that she is due sometime between June and August. The new family portrait shows Meghan holding their first-born son Archie, who will turn two in May, while Harry stands behind Meghan with his arms around her.
