Duke and Duchess of Cornwall to appear in special ‘EastEnders’ episode

May 23, 2022

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall are set to make a guest appearance in an upcoming special episode of iconic BBC television soap series, EastEnders, having originally filmed the scenes in March.

The special episode comes as a tribute to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year when she will celebrate 70 years on the throne.

According to the BBC, the royal couple “will join residents of Albert Square for a street party held in honour of the Monarch’s” 70-year reign, with character Mick Carter set to “tease” their arrival in the coming episodes.

Charles and Camilla will make their debut appearance as they are introduced to the residents of Walford upon arriving at the square.

“Viewers of the soap will have already seen Mick Carter, played by Danny Dyer, decide to throw a jubilee party for residents of the square – he will later tease that some very special guests will be in attendance”, as revealed by the BBC.

“In the jubilee episode, the partygoers will be left in shock when the royals appear.”

Executive producer of the show, Chris Clenshaw, described his “excitement” upon having the royal couple on board for the special episode, admitting the exclusive opportunity would be remembered for years to come.

“Linda Carter is naturally in her element and giddy with excitement as their royal highnesses arrive in Walford, but it wasn’t just her, as for all of us at EastEnders it was an extremely special day that will go down in EastEnders’ history,” Clenshaw said.

Co-star Kellie Bright, who plays the character of Linda Carter, sympathised with the couple’s likely anticipation upon being cast for the episode.

“I just thought, ‘wow, they’ve never done anything like this before’. They didn’t really know what to expect, I mean it must have been nerve-wracking for them and completely out of their norm,” Bright said.

Despite the likely daunting experience for the couple, Bright admitted she hoped they enjoyed the opportunity as much as she and the EastEnders team did.

In the Twitter post shared by BBC Eastenders, a number of fans commented with messages of enthusiasm for the upcoming episode.

However, a number of fans were not so impressed by the announcement as they rallied to the defence of Princess Diana to justify their distaste for the upcoming episode..

The episode is scheduled to air on Thursday, June 2, on BBC One.
