In an announcement that has stirred anticipation across the country, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla are scheduled to grace Australian shores this year.

The royal visit is set to take place later this year, coinciding with their attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Samoa in late October.

A spokesperson from the government expressed the Prime Minister’s delight at the prospect of hosting the royal couple

“The Prime Minister enjoys a warm relationship with the King and looks forward to welcoming His Majesty to Australia later this year,” the spokesperson told The Australian.

King Charles’s visit to Australia marks his inaugural trip since ascending to the throne, making him the first monarch to visit the country since Queen Elizabeth II‘s tour in October 2011.

Buckingham Palace offered no official statement on the matter with reports indicating that the details of the travel arrangements are in their preliminary stages, hinting at the early development of the royal visit plans.

The news of King Charles and Camilla’s visit to Australia comes after the royal couple took to Instagram recently to thank an adoring public “for all the warm welcomes up and down the country, and around the world, in 2023” during their many royal engagements through the year.

“Wishing everyone a very happy 2024!” they added.
