Princess Catherine is well known for her love of sports and many in her family have joked about her competitive spirit, however, the princess recently revealed her spiritual side while promoting a cause close to her heart – the natural world.

In a video shared by Kensington Palace, the 43-year-old Princess shared how she experienced a “very intense emotional reconnection” while out in nature and spending time in the great outdoors.

The Princess of Wales, who is co-president of UK Scouts, was visiting England’s stunning Lake District with a young scout group while highlighting the benefits of outdoor activities.

Speaking to chief scout Dwayne Fields, she told him how being in nature was “so… meaningful for me as a place of balance”.

“I find it a very spiritual and very intense emotional reconnection I suppose, these environments,” she said.

“Not everyone has that same relationship perhaps with nature, but it is so therefore meaningful for me as a place to balance and find a sort of sense of peace and reconnection in what is otherwise a very busy world.”

The video captures the princess walking near the shores of Lake Windermere, the largest lake in England and the centerpiece of the region, while then surrounded by the group of young scouts, aged between 10 and 15, as they crouch around a map of the region.

“It’s so beautiful because so many of the walks here, you can see Lake Windermere because it’s huge isn’t it?” Catherine says pointing at the map.

“Look how hilly it is in here. Have you done any of these big mountains?”

Princess Catherine was meeting Dwayne Fields, who took on his role in September, for the first time.

“What’s so fantastic about the Scouts is that the same foundation has sort of always been there, and still, despite how different the modern-day world is now, actually it still resonates with so many young people and it’s making such a massive difference to them,” she said.

Fields agreed with her comments and added that going into a natural environment “helps you understand yourself that much more.”

“We really belong in nature. We’re in tune with it and I think we need to come back to it because there is definitely something about being in nature that’s connected to our wellbeing,” he said.

Princess Catherine has spoken of the “power of nature” in promoting “wellbeing” in previous social media posts when she marked the opening of new gardens at the Natural History Museum in London while undergoing cancer treatment.
