Prince William and Princess Catherine’s 13-year marriage seems as solid as a rock. Having faced both cancer and Megxit, the Prince and Princess of Wales head towards the future with grace and dignity. But their stoic façade hides a mischievous side which, according to one royal reporter, is the bond that keeps them together.

Royal writer Christopher Andersen made the surprising revelation to Fox News Digital while promoting his new book, The King, about the life and reign of King Charles III.

Speaking to Fox, Andersen explained that the couple’s love of sports and their shared playful side was the real secret to the couple’s success.

“William once described Kate’s sense of humor as ‘naughty’ and his own as ‘dirty,’ and claimed that it was one of the most important things that drew them together,” he said.

“They’ve certainly cleaned up their act for the children’s sake, but they can still make each other double over laughing.”

According to the writer, the Prince and Princess have also passed their “wacky, slapstick, Monty Python-meets-Benny Hill sense of humor on to the children.”

“And like all parents of young children, William and Kate find themselves refereeing when the kids fight over the TV remote, or when the inevitable teasing that goes on between siblings turns into the equally inevitable wrestling match,” he added.

For astute royal fans, William and Catherine’s humour should come as no surprise. The couple’s shared sense of humour was on full display when the two joined hosts and rugby legends James Haskell and Mike Tindall on their podcast The Good, the Bad and the Rugby.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Haskell opened up about his experience with the Prince and Princess of Wales and said it was one of the few chances people get to see the couple at their most relaxed.

“That podcast was brilliant because we see them at their best, obviously they have a wicked sense of humour, in this country in particularly we obviously put people on a pedestal, but they are a regular family, an incredible family they do a lot for this country but a regular family,” he said.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were invited on a special episode of the sports-focused podcast which was recorded at Windsor Castle in September 2023.

During the podcast, Haskell prodded the pair, claiming Tindall compared Catherine to Monica from Friends, and added, “if you guys play table tennis it will go on for hours and hours, and be like, double or quits.”

While Catherine denied she was “super competitive” and claimed to not know “where this has come from”, the Princess did admit she and William never finished a round of tennis as it became a “mental challenge” between the two of them.
