Despite years of estrangement, Meghan Markle’s father has extended an olive branch to his daughter, revealing that he dreams of reuniting his “whole family” and harbours “no ill-will” toward Meghan.

Thomas Markle made the remarks during a recent interview with the Mail on Sunday, admitting that although he did not “like some of the things my daughter has done” he would “always love her”.

“I wish her no ill-will. My dream is that one day I could bring my whole family together, like a normal family,” he told the publication.

“There were good times. She was a good girl. I don’t like some of the things my daughter has done but I will always love her.

“My door is always open to her. I love her and that will never change. I love all my children.”

Meghan’s strained relationship with her father began in the lead-up to her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. Thomas was initially expected to walk his daughter down the aisle. However, days before the wedding, it emerged that he had staged paparazzi photos of himself preparing for the big day, leading to media backlash.

Amid the controversy, he experienced health issues and ultimately did not attend the wedding. Instead, Meghan’s father-in-law, King Charles III (then Prince Charles), stepped in to escort her down the aisle.

After the wedding, Thomas gave several interviews criticising Meghan and the Royal Family. He claimed that Meghan had cut him off and refused to respond to his attempts to reconnect. He also leaked personal letters from Meghan, which led to a legal battle between Meghan and a British newspaper over privacy violations.

Meghan and Harry, in turn, have expressed disappointment over Thomas’s actions, especially his willingness to engage with the press despite their requests for privacy.
