The ongoing rift between Meghan Markle and her family has taken a dramatic turn, with her estranged brother, Thomas Markle Jr., publicly criticising her newly released Netflix series With Love, Meghan.
In a recent interview with journalist Kevin O’Sullivan on TalkTV, Thomas didn’t mince words, calling the series “embarrassing” and accusing Meghan of telling exaggerated stories about her childhood.
The eight-part series chronicles Meghan’s life journey, including moments from her early years. But according to Thomas, much of what she shares is far from the truth.
“This is probably the first time I felt sorry and embarrassed for her,” he said, as per the Daily Mail.
One of the most contentious claims in With Love, Meghan comes in episode two, where Meghan reflects on her upbringing, describing herself as a “latchkey kid” who often relied on fast food and TV dinners.
Thomas pushed back hard against this narrative.
“That’s just another one of the malarkey stories she sold to the Royal Family for sympathy. We weren’t poor. She didn’t have to rub two nickels together at Sizzler’s salad bar,” he said.
Meghan’s new series airs as she reveals that she has no intention of relinquishing her royal title.
Prince Harry and Meghan received the Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles from Queen Elizabeth on their wedding day in 2018 and are deeply attached to the moniker.
For Meghan, the Sussex name holds profound personal meaning, something that became apparent after having children.
“It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children,” she told People.
“I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me.”
She added that the Sussex name “is part of our love story.”
