Mary proves she’s the most stylish princess of them all

The Aussie-born princess is winning hearts in Copenhagen.

Princess Mary is regarded as one of the most stylish royals in the world and she proved she’s worthy of the title once again on a day out in Copenhagen.

The Aussie-born princess was joined by her husband Crown Prince Frederik as they greeted Japan’s Crown Prince Naruhito, who is in Denmark for a five-day visit.

While Frederik sported a navy suit for the occasion, Mary looked glamorous in a flowing print dress and a gorgeous headpiece clipped to the back of her hair.

She matched the fascinator with beige shoes and clutch and – ever the lady – a pair of gloves.

Prince Naruhito is touring the region following his father’s decision to abdicate the thrown and hand over the reigns to his son, reports Reuters

Emperor Akihito is the first Japanese monarch to abdicate in 200 years.

He recently had heart surgery and treatment for pancreatic cancer and said he worried his health would affect his ability to devote himself to the job.

Speaking at his Toyko palace after the announcement, Prince Naruhito said: “I intend to devote myself heart and soul to the duties he passes on to me.”

At 57, Naruhito will be one of the most progressive royals to take the Imperial throne. He is the first to graduate with a university degree and defied Palace orders when he married Masako Owada, a Harvard- and Oxford-educated diplomat 24 years ago.

Since their wedding, Owada has battled depression brought on by the stresses of her royal duties and the demands she bear a royal heir — she gave birth to a daughter in 2001.

The Crown Princess was invited to Denmark, but decided to stay home due to the fast-past schedule of the trip and her duties at home, Prince Naruhito said.

“Masako is continuing treatment and while taking care of her health is making efforts to carry out as much as possible, but she still has ups and downs in her condition so that what she can do – including foreign trips – cannot be expanded quickly,” he said.

“At this point, it’s difficult to judge about future foreign travel.”

Do you think royals should abdicate the throne, or carry out their duty until death? Do you think Queen Elizabeth will ever abdicate?
