Princess Mary gives her opinion on vaccinations

Princess Mary appeared in the World Health Organization video.

Vaccinations are a hot topic these days and the argument over whether they are right or wrong has gone all the way to the royals.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has appeared in a video for the World Health Organization, urging everyone to join the movement and vaccinate their children.

She said vaccines play a “fundamental role” in preventing disease around the world and encouraged viewers to dismiss the anti-vax rhetoric that some are pushing.

“The effect of persistent rumours can cause some people to delay or decide against vaccination, but no rumour can be as compelling as the simple truth that vaccines save lives,” she said.

The video was released ahead of WHO’s annual European Immunisation Week campaign of which Mary has been a patron since 2005.

Vaccinations have been a contentious topic here in Mary’s home country over the past few years.

The Government’s ‘no job, no pay’ policy caused outrage from parents who don’t believe in vaccinating their children.

There was further outcry when a recent survey by the Australian Child Health Poll found one in six unvaccinated children are being refused care by medical professionals.

Despite the loud campaigns by anti-vaxxers though, the majority of Australian children are fully immunised.

What are your thoughts on vaccines? Do you support them? Should they be mandatory?
