Jimmy Barnes to return to hospital for ‘more surgery’

After enduring a difficult 2024 marked by health struggles, Aussie rock legend Jimmy Barnes has announced he will be returning to hospital for further surgery, but reassures fans that it “is actually good news”.

The Working Class Man hitmaker left fans stunned last year when he revealed he had been admitted to hospital after a “twinge” became “unbearable”, requiring a medical procedure.

Now, in a recent post on social media, Barnes updated fans on his upcoming return to hospital and what it will involve.

“Hey everyone, I’ve got some news to share with you. My incredible doctors have cleared me to go back in next week to have my hip replaced with a permanent joint,” he wrote.

“I’m obviously not looking forward to more surgery but this is actually good news. I’d like to apologise in advance to my darling Jane who’s going to be back in nursing mode for the next few weeks (I’m not a great patient if you didn’t know).

“The temporary hip that I had in there for the past few months did its job, and it got me through the amazing Cold Chisel “The Big Five-0” Tour.

“I’d like to thank the very talented physios who strapped me up like I was in a grand final every night. That got me through the shows.

“I’ve got another big year coming up, and this new hip will have me stomping around the stage before you can say 1, 2, 3, 4.

“See you on the road.”

Following Barnes’ update, fans were quick to wish him all the best for a “speedy recovery”.

“All the best for your next surgery. Heal quickly and protect Jane, at all costs,” one wrote.

“Good luck Jimmy. You will be in good hands and be tended by the world’s most loving nurse.”

“Best wishes Jimmy for a speedy recovery!” commented another.

“Good luck jimmy take care all the best for a speedy recovery.”

Barnes’ latest health update comes after he recently reflected on the year gone by, expressing his deep appreciation for the encouragement he received as he navigated his health struggles.

“I want to thank you all for your support over the last year,” he wrote.

“Not just for me but the goodwill and support you have all offered my family as well. It has been a huge year and all I can say is bring on the next one.

“I’m happy to have survived 2024. We have a lot of great things planned for you and we can’t wait to reveal them. Stay tuned, and a very Happy New Year to you all.”
