Just as things were looking up for Jimmy Barnes after overcoming recent health issues and returning to the stage, the rock icon has shared some “bad news” with his fans: he has been forced to return to hospital.
The Scottish-born singer underwent surgery in December last year following complications from a bacterial infection that had affected his heart.
Although he quickly bounced back and had begun performing once again, the Working Class Man hitmaker recently delivered some bad news on Instagram, revealing that he is to undergo yet another medical procedure.
“I’ve got some bad news unfortunately. I had a twinge in my hip when I was leaving Dunedin on Thursday morning and by late last night the pain was unbearable so I went off to hospital,” he explained.
“The doctors have recommended a remedial medical procedure ASAP followed by some physio to address the issue. These doctors don’t muck around! Providing all goes to plan, I’m expected to make a full recovery in six weeks.
“However, as a result of this unexpected surgery my August and September solo shows will all be impacted. Ticket holders will be contacted with further info in the coming days once we have new plans in place.
“As you know, I hate to let anyone down, but I’m also never going to compromise the quality of my gigs. I apologise for the inconvenience this will cause everyone – I HATE moving shows! – but thank you for understanding.”

Fans reacted to the announcement with an outpouring of support, wishing him a speedy recovery and expressing sympathy for the rocker as he faces yet another health battle.
“Bummer Jimmie !!!! Bloody hell just when you were kicking goals. Well good luck mate and wish a speedy recovery,” one wrote.
“Gosh Jimmy! You can’t get a break right now can you? You must always put your health and family first. Your fans will wait….”
“Wow that was a big shock to hear this take care,” commented another.
“You’re coppin a hidin poor Jimmy … rest easy and take care. Sending so much love.”
“Take care Jimmy – rest up and heal well. Sending love to you all.”
Barnes’ latest setback comes after he made a triumphant return to the stage, showcasing his remarkable recovery from open-heart surgery in a stellar performance at Bluesfest.
Barnes kicked off his set with the classic hit Working Class Man, declaring to the crowd, “It’s good to be here. It’s good to be f***ing anywhere.”
Joined by fellow Bluesfest performers and some surprise guests, Barnes delivered an electrifying performance that left the crowd in awe. Guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel and vocalist Josh Teskey were among those who joined Barnes on stage, adding to the spectacle.
