Renowned Hollywood actress Meryl Streep and her husband, acclaimed sculptor Don Gummer, have disclosed that they have been separated for the past six years.

The revelation, confirmed by Streep’s representative in an official statement to People magazine on Saturday, October 21, sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and among fans who have long admired the couple’s enduring love story.

“Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than six years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart,” the statement read.

Gummer, an accomplished sculptor hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, crossed paths with Streep in 1978, thanks to a serendipitous introduction by Streep’s brother.

At that time, the gifted actress was grappling with the profound loss of her beloved boyfriend, fellow actor John Cazale, who had succumbed to lung cancer.

The instant connection that blossomed between Streep and Gummer was undeniable. Their bond deepened rapidly, culminating in a heartfelt decision to exchange vows a mere six months later during an intimate ceremony that took place at Streep’s childhood home.

Over the ensuing years, both Streep and Gummer have maintained a veil of privacy around their personal lives, opting to keep their relationship largely shielded from the public eye.

While they have occasionally been captured together at events, they have remained tight-lipped about their romantic journey, leaving much to the imagination of their adoring fans.

News of Streep’s separation isn’t the only unfortunate relationship update to rock Hollywood with beloved Aussie star Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness recently announcing their split.

The couple issued a joint statement to People magazine, announcing their decision to go their separate ways.

“We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” the statement read.

“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.

“This is the sole statement either of us will make.”

The couple first met in 1995 on the set of the Australian TV show Correlli, and they were seen as a strong example of a loving and stable couple in the often unpredictable world of Hollywood relationships.

During a previous interview with TODAY, Jackman revealed that he felt an instant attraction to Furness, explaining that he “knew two weeks into meeting Deb that we were going to be together for the rest of our lives”.
