Going solo: Prince Harry to visit the UK alone while hopes soar for a reunion with the King

Prince Harry will return to his homeland next week to attend a service at St Paul’s Cathedral. He’ll make the trip without his family while speculation is rife on whether or not the Duke will be able to carve out some meaningful quality time with his father, King Charles III.

The service will be held on May 8 and marks 10 years since the Prince founded the Invictus Games, an extremely successful international sporting event for wounded war veterans.

Since news of the Prince’s travels were made public earlier this year, questions have swirled around whether his wife, Meghan and two children, Archie and Lilibet, will join him for this significant milestone event.

According to GB News, a source close to Meghan revealed that the Duchess would not return to the UK with her husband but instead would rejoin him in Nigeria on the next leg of his journey.

The last time the Duchess visited the UK was in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.

There has been much conjecture surrounding her hesitance to return to the UK with some sources citing security concerns while others say it could be because of potential backlash from the British public.

While Meghan is out of the picture, hopes have soared that the Prince will find the time to reunite with King Charles.

Harry previously visited the UK in February after news of Charles’ cancer diagnosis sent shockwaves around the globe. According to some, the Duke was only able to see his father for 30 minutes given time constraints.

It has already been confirmed that the King, as well as other royal family members, will not attend the Invictus service. According to palace insiders, on May 8, the King will have his weekly meeting with British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, before the first Buckingham Palace garden party of the season provided he feels well enough.

Harry is also thought to be making an effort to mend bridges with his brother, Prince William.

Royal author, Tom Quinn believes, that in light of Princess Catherine’s cancer diagnosis, Harry will make the effort to visit his estranged brother and sister-in-law while he is in the UK. 

“Given Kate’s cancer diagnosis, Harry will certainly make efforts to see his brother and Kate when he returns to the UK in May,” Quinn told The Mirror.

“If it happens at all it’s to be a very brief carefully choreographed meeting and organised to last a short time so that the brothers can avoid any difficult conversations.

“At the same time Harry knows how it will look if he comes back to the UK and doesn’t see his brother and Kate. It’s going to be a very awkward time.”

In the midst of recent health and family challenges, Prince Harry’s visit and other supportive gestures hint at a renewed opportunity for reconciliation within the Royal Family, highlighting the importance of putting differences aside during times of adversity.
