Emotions ran high after beloved Home and Away star Lynne McGranger recently filmed her final scene for the long-running drama series, drawing the curtain on decades spent playing Irene Roberts.

As McGranger filmed her final scenes on the Pier Diner set, cast and crew gathered to watch and bid her a heartfelt farewell. Afterward, she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a Hamburger Phone from the iconic diner set.

“I’ve had the ride of my life. And I love each and every one of you so much: The cast – Ray, Georgie, Emily, Shane, Ada, James, all the youngins. The art department, the writers, everybody – there’s so many unsung heroes. This show is made up of so many parts,” she said.

“You’re all amazing, and it’s been my great privilege to work with each and every one of you. I’m touched, I’m humbled and I’m so honoured. Thank you so much.”

Fans quickly joined in bidding farewell to McGranger, wishing her all the best for the future.

“Irene will be so missed, wishing her the very best for the future, health and happiness,” one wrote.

“Thank you Irene. You will be missed.”

“So sad miss Irene leaving the show and good luck all the best for her in the future,” another commented.

“All my life I’ve watched you on the screen, that I will miss very much.”

While fans will have to wait to see how beloved Irene leaves Summer Bay, during a recent chat with Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie, McGranger teased what fans can expect in her final appearance.

“My initial thought was, maybe she can just get hit by a bus outside the diner,” she quipped, as per Woman’s Day.

“I had this idea, of what I think is a terrific storyline, and I went to the writers, and normally they’re like, ‘Oh, quick lock the door. Here she comes. Last time she came, she wanted Irene to get abducted by aliens…it’s not a valid storyline’.

“But this time they heard me out… I think it’s very, very pertinent, and I think people will travel the journey.”

McGranger, who has portrayed the iconic Irene Roberts for nearly 33 years, has become a staple of Summer Bay and is the longest-serving female actor in an Australian drama series.

McGranger joined the cast of Home and Away in 1993, and her character quickly became a fan favorite. Irene Roberts, a strong-willed, independent, and caring woman, resonated with viewers, and McGranger’s portrayal of the character earned her critical acclaim.
