Hollywood star Robert De Niro is a dad once again after confirming he’s welcomed his seventh child this year at the remarkable age of 79.
The Goodfellas actor shared the news on Tuesday, May 6, during a sit-down interview with ET Canada.
During their chat, De Niro corrected reporter Brittnee Blair, who stated that the actor has six kids.
“I know you have six kids,” Blair began.
“Seven, actually,” De Niro corrected, adding “I just had a baby.”
The actor also shared that he loved being a father, explaining his approach to parenthood is to be “loving with [his] kids” while knowing when to be “stern about stuff”.
“I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice,” he explained.
“And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t.”
De Niro noted that he doesn’t consider himself a “cool dad,” joking that while he “adores” his 11-year-old daughter, she does give him “grief”.
“You know, my kids disagree with me at times, and they’re respectful. My daughter, she’s 11, she gives me grief sometimes and I argue with her. I adore her, but, you know. And my youngest now, that’ll be more to come. But, that’s what it is,” he said.
Since the announcement of De Niro’s newborn child, the public have taken to social media to express their disbelief and shock, with some calling him “insane” for having a child at his late age.

The Godfather star shares his six older children from his five previous relationships.
His first wife, Diahnne Abbott, is the mother of his daughter Drena, aged 51, and son Raphael, aged 46. His twin sons Julian and Aaron, aged 27, with his former girlfriend, Toukie Smith and shares two more children, son Elliot, 24, and daughter Helen Grace, 11, with his ex-wife, Grace Hightower.
De Niro is also a grandfather to four children.
