On Sunday, March 12, the 95th annual Oscars kicked off at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, the celebrity-filled event recognises this year’s top performances in film, with several highly talked about movies such as Elvis, Tár, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and The Fabelmans competing for Best Picture.
But before the 24k gold-plated trophies were handed out, Hollywood A-listers took to this year’s champagne carpet and donned their best formal wear.
While many attendees looked picture-perfect that evening, we think these are some of the best looks of the evening.
For the glitziest night in Hollywood, actress Michelle Yeoh opted for an angelic, white Dior couture A-line gown with a sheer neckline and a tulle train.
She adorned herself with diamonds that included drop earrings, a white watch, and a matching ring, all of which were from Moussaieff high jewellery. For make-up, Yeoh chose a peach-toned glamorous look and had voluminous, bouncy curls that were kept in place with a rhinestone headpiece.
Not only did Yeoh steal the night with her red carpet ensemble, but the Malaysian-born entertainer also made history as the first woman of Asian descent to win an Oscar in an acting category – for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once–and the first to win in a leading acting category.
Cate Blanchett looked like a quintessential Hollywood star. She wore a custom-made Louis Vuitton look that featured a very 80s-inspired top half, almost resembling a cape, with structured shoulders. The stunning rich turquoise colour of the outfit was a standout choice and the draped top half of her look seemed to tuck loosely into a more fitted black skirt, which extended into a chic train.
To complete her look, Blanchett wore makeup that consisted of peachy tones on her lips and cheekbones. Her blonde hair was styled in a chic low-up-do and she accessorised with a pair of elegant diamond droplet earrings.
Jamie Lee Curtis caught everyone’s attention as she attended this year’s Oscars wearing a Dolce & Gabbana crystal-encrusted gown. The outfit featured exquisite corset detailing, a high neckline, and a figure-hugging silhouette, all of which exuded elegance. To complete her look, the actress rocked age-defying make-up and kept her signature silver hair swept to the side.
And like Yeoh, the evening was especially historical for the actress who won her first-ever Oscar for best actress in a supporting role for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Another stand out from the evening was Aussie actress Nicole Kidman.
Upon arriving at the 2023 Oscars, the Being The Ricardos star was seen wearing a custom one-shoulder gown by Armani Privé. The dress was a stunning piece that was entirely covered in black sequins and featured a thigh-high slit. At one shoulder and her waist, Kidman wore giant rosettes that were embellished with sparkling black and silver sequins.
Kidman opted to keep her accessories minimal, allowing the statement dress to stand out. She wore a few diamond bracelets and a pair of classic strappy black pumps to complement her look.
Angela Bassett made a grand entrance at the event, wearing a stunning royal purple gown designed by Moschino. The vibrant outfit had a dramatic bow-like detail at the bust, along with diagonal draping across the torso and waist, a mermaid silhouette, and a flowing train, which all added to the glamorous effect.
To complete the show-stopping look, Bassett wore Sarah Flint shoes and accessorised with glittering diamond stud earrings, a bracelet, and a serpent necklace from Bulgari. She also carried a sequined black circular bag to add some sparkle to the ensemble.
