Bruce Willis‘s wife, Emma Heming, has opened up about her recent mental health struggles after news of her husband’s shock diagnosis of a debilitating brain disorder broke just weeks ago.

The 43 year-old model admitted the immense amount of pressure she put on herself to take care of her family had taken its “toll” on the state of her own health.

Speaking to US parenting site, The Bump, Heming admitted her over-exhausted efforts to cater to everyone’s needs fell short of “serving” both her family and herself.

“I put my family’s needs above my own, which I found does not make me any kind of hero,” Heming said.

“That amount of care for everyone else within my household had taken a toll on my mental health and overall health. And it served no one in my family.”

After the candid revelation, Heming admitted she was now focusing her efforts in better managing time for self-care for the sake of herself and her beloved family, including her two young daughters with Willlis, Mabel, 10, and Evelyn, 8.

The model went on to share touching advice someone had once given her, revealing the words had really influenced her to take a stance in ensuring her own health was never undervalued.

“Someone told me not long ago that when you over-care for someone, you end up under-caring for yourself,” Heming revealed.

“That stopped me in my tracks and really resonated with me.”

On Wednesday, March 30, Willis’s family released a joint statement announcing the actor would be “steeping away from the career that has meant so much to him” following his shock diagnosis.

“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” the statement said.

The devestating news shocked the world as fans rallied to social media to share their love and support for the famed actor and Die Hard legend.

Soon after the news broke, Heming took to Instagram to share a touching photo of the loved-up couple sharing an intimate moment away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Heming captioned the photo, “Mom & Dad in their favorite habitat #offthegrid”, as her and Willis smiled at each other lovingly as the enjoyed a day out in the wilderness.

Willis is famously known for his iconic role as John McClane in the incredibly successful Die Hard films and for his performances in films including Blind Date, G.I. Joe, RED, The Sixth Sense and Fifth Element, amongst many others.
