Aldi has recalled its popular bagless vacuum cleaner from stores across the country over safety fears. The retail giant’s Easy Home – Multicyclonic Vacuum Cleaner was pulled from shelves after fears the motor could catch fire if the dust filter became blocked.

The vacuum cleaner was available in stores between February 5 2020 to March 3 2020 and September 5 2020 to December 9 2020 in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.

According to the product recall statement that appeared on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) site, the vacuum cleaner could be identified by “BVC-KPA24 / 700175” or “VCK24 / 702119” printed on the rating label located on the underside of the appliance.

“If a fire occurs, there is a risk of damage to property, serious injury to the user and other household occupants,” the notice stated.

Customers who purchased the product have been advised to return it to any Aldi store for a full refund. For more information they can also contact the Aldi recall helpline on 1300 124 326 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5.30pm AEST).

The recall came after Woolworths also had an urgent recall of their fresh prawns just before Christmas Day over contamination fears. The prawns were the supermarket’s own-brand of 1kg bag of Cooked & Peeled Cocktail Prawns.

The prawns, which were imported from Thailand, were recalled due to potential microbial contamination and could have caused illness if consumed.

The compromised prawns were available for sale at Woolworths at stores in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory, Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and Western Australia, and had a best before date of February 21, 2022.
