The Queen is pretty in pink as she plays host at Palace

It’s no secret Queen Elizabeth values duty to the Monarch above all else and Her Majesty will definitely go down in history as one of the most committed British royals to serve on the throne.

While all eyes have been on the younger members of the royal family over the past week, the Queen stepped out in a gorgeous pink dress to welcome ambassadors from around the globe to Buckingham Palace on Thursday.

As is often her style, the 92-year-old donned a bright pink shift dress for the formal diplomatic occasion, further brightening up an already cheerful ensemble with a multi-strand pearl necklace. She matched her gorgeous dress with her favourite black shoes and a black patent handbag.

It’s the first time the Queen has been back at the official London residence since the early summer. The Queen spent the summer months at Balmoral before returning to Windsor last week with Prince Philip, 97, for the wedding of her granddaughter Princess Eugenie to Jack Brooksbank.

Throughout her 66-year reign, Queen Elizabeth has met some of the world’s most incredible people, from politicians and celebrities to real life heroes. And the 92-year-old monarch greeted another living legend this week as she shook hands with 101-year-old Jack Lyon, the last surviving ‘great escape’ survivor, as she celebrated 100 years of the RAF in Mayfair, London, on Wednesday.

The Queen stopped to speak to former flight lieutenant Lyon, who was one of 600 prisoners of war who helped to dig a 300ft network of tunnels before launching a spectacular escape bid from the Stalag Luft III POW camp, in Sagan, Germany, in March 1944.

Lyon, who was known as ‘Tiger’, was imprisoned at the camp when he was just 23, after his bomber crashed in Poland, and the veteran previously revealed how he was about to climb into one of the tunnels, when the plot was rumbled by the Luftwaffe.

Speaking on his 100th birthday last year, he told The Sun: “Another half an hour and I wouldn’t have been here now. When I think about it, luck was on my side.”

After months of speculation, Kensington Palace confirmed on Monday that the Duke and Duchess are expecting a baby in spring, 2019. It is the first child for both Meghan and Harry, who have spoken openly in the past about their desire to start a family.
