Princess Anne made quite a fashion statement at the royal wedding on Saturday, but perhaps not in the way she’d hoped. While there were plenty of wild outfits at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, the 67-year-old princess stood out from the crowd thanks to her burgundy and navy ensemble, which has since been likened to the famous dressing gown worn by Playboy king Hugh Hefner.

Royal fans flocked to social media to comment on the outfit with one user bluntly saying: “Princess Anne has come dressed as Hugh Hefner”.

It seems plenty of others agreed, with another user writing, “Ok so real talk, Princess Anne wore a Hugh Hefner costume to the #royalwedding”, while a third wrote, “Princess Anne’s dress is brought to you by the Hugh Hefner collection #RoyalWeddding”.

Others felt her striking outfit looked more like nightwear than outwear. One user wrote,”Princess Anne must have overslept as she attended the wedding in her dressing gown,” another added,”Is Princess Anne wearing a dressing gown? #RoyalWeddding”.

Given her penchant for choosing bold and unique outfits, it’s perhaps no surprise that Anne went for something a little different for the most highly anticipated royal event in recent years.

She completed her ensemble with a matching burgundy-and-navy hat, navy heels and a suede clutch. She also sported her signature hair style with plenty of volume and no doubt plenty of hair spray to hold it in place!

The princess wasn’t the only royal who made headlines for her royal wedding outfit either. The Duchess of Cambridge bucked tradition in a primrose yellow tailored coat by Alexander McQueen — the label behind her own wedding gown — which she has previously worn at two other royal events.

Catherine was first seen in the designer piece for the christening of Princess Charlotte back in July 2015, and wore it again one year later for the Trooping of the Colour in June 2016.

For the royal wedding, Catherine paired the coat-dress with a Philip Treacy hat and a pair of Jimmy Choo heels. She wore her thick brunette locks in effortless waves and kept her makeup to a minimum.
