As we get a little older, our hair changes. It can thin out, change texture, get drier and, above all, go grey. Our facial features change too, of course, which is why the hairstyle you sported in your 40s will often no longer suit you in your 60s and beyond.

Hair can have quite an impact: if it looks fantastic, you will feel fantastic. We believe all women deserve to look and feel their best – and here at Starts at 60, we think you should start at the top (of your head that is)!

Here are five of our favourite hairstyles – and some styling tips – to give you your most flattering look yet!

1. The Short Pixie: This style is perfect for those with fine hair who want to highlight their face. Keep it soft and fun – a la Dame Judi Dench! All you’ll need to create this look is some styling wax.

2. The Longer Pixie: For those who aren’t ready to take the plunge and go super short, the longer pixie is a stylish option for women with finer hair, such as Hollywood icon Jane Fonda. Some hairspray will keep this look in place.

3. The Wavy, Fringed Bob: This flattering hairstyle frames the face and softens the features. It’s perfectly suited to ladies with fine to medium hair, such as the lovely Olivia Newton-John. All you’ll need is a curling tong and some hairspray.

4. The Sleek Lob (long bob): If you have a rounder face, a longer length can work better. Perfect for all hair textures, the lob is also fantastically low maintenance (yay)! But a hair straightener will keep this style looking sleek.

5. The Tousled Mid-Length: This is another easy-to-maintain style, beautifully modelled here by actress Mary Steenburgen. Some shine spray or Argan oil after the curling tong will give this look a boost.
