Plastic cutting boards are a staple in many kitchens due to their lightweight nature, affordability, and dishwasher-friendly convenience.

However, even with diligent cleaning, food items can leave stubborn stains, making the boards look less than appealing.

Enter one savvy woman with a game-changing solution to banish those pesky stains and keep your cutting boards pristine and germ-free.

TikTok cleaning expert Elnaz Hamai took to social media to share her secret recipe for spotless boards, using just lemon, salt, and baking soda.

In her video, she begins by slicing a lemon in half.

“Sprinkle salt over the board, then sprinkle baking soda on top,” she explained.

Hamai then rubs the board with half a lemon, cut side down.

“Wait five minutes,” she advises, to let the ingredients do their work.

“Then clean and dry.”

She then revealed a clean and bright board.

Other social media users also enjoy using lemons in their cleaning hacks.

An Australian homeowner recently revealed how she used the citrus fruit to maintain a flawlessly clean dishwasher.

Taking to the Simple Savers Facebook page, she divulged her almost effortless technique for incorporating a handful of leftover lemons into each dishwasher cycle that leaves the dishwasher sparkling clean and free of nasty buildup.

She explained that although her husband usually buys Logix Dishwasher Cleaner to get the dishwasher clean, she found the natural alternative worked just as well.

“My husband insists on buying this to clean the dishwasher,” she wrote.

“I blew his mind by throwing my used lime/ lemon wedges (used in drinks, salad dressings, home made hummus etc) into the dishwasher WHILE it was cleaning dishes to clean the dishwasher.

“No extra cost, no need to do it separately to cleaning the dishes (wasting heaps of water) and a sparkling dishwasher!”

The online community was quickly buzzing with excitement about the inventive hack, expressing their eagerness to give it a try.
