An elderly couple are starting to forget things easily, so they decide to visit the doctor. She tells them that it happens to many people in older age but that writing little notes can help them to remember things.
When they get home, the wife wants her husband to get her a sweet treat from the kitchen. “Honey, can you please go to the kitchen and get me a bowl of ice cream?” she asks. “And write it down so you don’t forget!”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” he replies. “I can remember a bowl of ice cream.”
“Well, while you’re there, I would like some strawberries and whipped cream as well,” the wife adds.
“My memory isn’t that bad,” the husband replies. “You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream. I don’t need to write that down.”
The husband goes into the kitchen and the wife can hear all sorts of noises. Eventually, he emerges from the kitchen with a plate of bacon and eggs.
Confused, the wife looks at the plate. “This isn’t the toast I asked for,” she hisses.
