For many Australians, summer equals humidity, which equals mould. Especially in our bathrooms.
While many of us turn to tried and true solutions like bleach, one social media star has a safer way to deal with those mould spores that will keep your spaces mould-free for good.
Torrie Thompson has studied naturopathic medicine and recently shared her insights in a video that has now been viewed 1.2 million times.
In the clip, Thompson tells her viewers that from now on they should only deep clean their bathrooms once a month and to keep these spaces “extremely clean” and “extremely dry”.
How to do this?
Thompson lists her tips and tricks.
“When it comes to cleaning your shower, do not use bleach, all bleach does is take the top layer, the coloured layer of the mould off and the strongest spores survive,” she says.
Next, she says to either run the demister fan after a shower or while you are in the shower. She then adds that you can get a dehumidifier and keep it in the bathroom to remove all moisture in the air.
Then at the end, Thompson says to use either distilled vinegar or another non-toxic mould cleaning product and explains that this will “actually take care of the spores itself so they don’t come back.”

Many viewers were thankful for her bleach-free mould solutions but others on social media were more skeptical.
“Thank you for the clean bathroom information,” one wrote.
“Yessss finally someone says vinegar instead of bleach!!” another added.
“I absolutely hate bleach in the house! My mom uses it all the time for this reason. I get headaches so bad from it and I get other cleaners but she won’t use them. Always has to be bleach!”
“Cool tip, I didn’t know.”
While another confirmed that since setting up a UVC lamp in their bathtub they “haven’t had mould since I started doing that at least once a week for 15 or 20 minutes.”
Meanwhile, other social media stars have their own handy hints to keep your bathrooms mould-free throughout the year.
Taking to social media, professional sensation Jetlag Remedy showed how she tackled the problem with just a $1.75 Shine dish brush from Woolworths.
In a video she uploaded to TikTok, the cleaning wiz demonstrated how she kept her shower grout constantly mould-free “for just a few dollars as a pro.”
“All it takes is this hard-bristled scrubbing brush, I picked up mine for a few dollars from Woolworths and having it hung up in my shower constantly keeps me reminded to give everything a scrub whenever I need to,” she said.
“When I finish my shower, I’ll scrub the grout that needs to be done and then turn (the shower) back on, give it a little rinse off and I’m done.”
In almost no time, the grout has been sorted.
