Yellowstone fans are once again left on the edge of their seat, eager with anticipation as the midseason finale of their favourite series left viewers with yet another cliffhanger, thankfully Paramount Network has already announced the upcoming release date for the second half of season five.

However, those ready for more Dutton family drama may have to hold their horses for a few months as the network announced during Sunday’s midseason finale that Yellowstone season five would return in the summer of 2023, as production of the second half of the season is yet to commence.

This months long break will no doubt feel like a lifetime for fans of the show, but the show’s creators have already promised to end the season with a bang.

To get their audience excited for the return of season five, the network has already dropped a teaser trailer telling fans where they can get behind-the-scenes looks and insights into their favourite show.

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan had previously warned fans not to get too comfortable with seeing their beloved characters appearing on screen again, as this might finally be the season a member of the Dutton family gets killed off.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Sheridan had hinted that it’s likely one of the show’s other main characters won’t make it through the new season alive.

“If you look at everyone as a chess piece in [Yellowstone] season 5, it is impossible to keep playing the game without taking chess pieces off the board,” he told ET.

But whether or not a member of the Dutton family dies this upcoming season, Sheridan has made it clear their death is not the end of the show.

“I know how it ends. I’m writing to that ending,” he told The New York Times.

“There’s only so much hovering one can do before the story starts to lose its locomotion – you can’t put it in neutral just because it’s successful.

“It will go as many years as it takes for me to tell the story, but you’re not going to see nine seasons of it. No way.”

The Western drama has also become the most-watched on cable television since it launched in 2018 with its cast regularly being nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

The massive success of Yellowstone has also created multiple spinoffs, including 1923 which stars Hollywood royalty, Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, and takes us a century back before Kevin Costner’s John Dutton and his family run the iconic Dutton ranch.

The first half of Yellowstone season five and its previous four seasons are all available for streaming on Stan.
