Thomas Markle has appeared in an emotional TV appearance and pleaded with the Queen to step in and help mend his ongoing rift with his daughter, the Duchess of Sussex.

The 74-year-old appeared via video link on UK program Good Morning Britain to claim he had been making near constant attempts to contact his daughter since her wedding – but has been “ghosted” every time.

Thomas famously pulled out of walking Meghan down the aisle at her May wedding to Prince Harry after reportedly suffering heart problems. He has now claimed she hasn’t spoken to him since.

“I’m very disappointed by it. I’m not sure why it’s happening. I’m reaching out… every day I try and text her and just haven’t had any comment back,” he said on the show.

Asked if he had a message for the Queen, he told host Piers Morgan: “I would appreciate anything she can do and I would think that she would want to resolve the family problems … All families, royal or otherwise, are the same and they should all be together certainly around the holidays.”

He later added: “I’m her father – and I will be a grandfather to her children. All I can do is, well I am here, she knows it, and I reach out to her and I hope she reaches out to me.’’

He added: “I love her very much.’’

While Meghan is yet to introduce Harry to her father, Thomas admitted he hopes he’ll be able to meet their baby when its born and be a grandfather to them.

“I am certainly hoping that everything goes well and that they produce a beautiful baby and I’ll get to see a little Meghan or a little Harry — that would be very nice and I look forward to that happening,” he said. “I think she’ll make a great Mum.”

Elsewhere, Thomas branded his daughter “controlling” on the show before hastily insisting that she’s never rude and he loves her unconditionally.

“She’s a very controlling person – that’s part of her nature – but she’s never rude… the ghosting I don’t completely understand, she’s always been in charge that’s her nature, but she has been always polite with it,” he added.

And he went on to blame the media for fuelling the rift between him and Meghan, claiming both she and Harry believe too much of what they read when some of it isn’t true.

“The funny thing about my daughter and Prince Harry is that they believe everything they read in the paper,” he added. “What’s happened, I’m not sure. I’d love to talk about it.”

Thomas previously came under fire in the weeks before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ wedding when he was caught out setting up paparazzi photos in order to try and paint a more admirable picture of himself. They included him sat in a cafe reading news reports about his daughter online.

He was later forced to miss her wedding at the last minute when he suffered serious heart problems, with Harry’s father Prince Charles stepping into his place to walk Meghan down the final part of the aisle.
