Helen Mirren shows how to jazz up old wardrobe staple: A pair of black slacks

We may be used to seeing her in some of the most stunning gowns and dresses of the fashion world, but Helen Mirren has proven you don’t need a lot of money or a fancy dress to look fashionable.

Almost every woman has one pair of simple black trousers in her wardrobe, and many women have far more than one pair! It’s for good reason – they can be pulled out for everything from a trip to the shops to a more formal do and work each time, depending on what you put on top.

The Winchester star shows just how it’s done, teaming her straight-legged black slacks with a silky orange bomber-style jacket and a bright headscarf that took the trousers from boring to stylish in one quick move. Paired with two other wardrobe staples – the simple white t-shirt and plain black court heels – it was a masterclass in working with the basics to create an interesting outfit that was uniquely her.

The look was a far cry from the high-fashion dresses the 72-year-old actress usually dons for walks down the red carpet, but goes to show that if you’ve got the right basics in your wardrobe, you can quickly channel your own signature style without too much effort. The Calendar Girls star was snapped looking her best as she made her way to the iconic Titanic Hotel in Berlin. In addition to her simple yet fashion-forward outfit, Helen chose to wear a bright pink shade of lipstick and was able to jazz up her look with an elegant watch and some rings on her fingers.

Her latest look comes after the Hitchcock actress recently revealed her beauty trick to always looking stunning. The star, who is rarely seen with very heavy make-up and often poses without make-up in selfies on social media, said she got her eyebrows tattooed on. For her, it’s made her feel comfortable and confident in her own skin.

“I was fed up of my brows barely being there, and when one of my girlfriends got it done, I thought they looked great“, she told Women & Home magazine in the UK. “They’re very lightly and delicately done, but it means that when I get up in the morning and I have no make-up on, at least I have eyebrows! It’s made a huge difference.”

In her latest movie project, The Leisure Seeker, Helen is almost unrecognisable as she plays an 80-something lady who has chosen to stop receiving treatment for a serious illness and is grappling with her own mortality.
