UPCOMING EVENT: A comedy night for, and by, older Australians

Breakfast radio legend Terry Hansen will MC a fun-filled evening celebrating the ups and downs of ageing.

Do you live in or around Brisbane? Are you looking for a great night out, filled with laughs that you can really relate to?

South-East Queensland readers are warmly invited to the Starts at 60 Comedy Festival — a special one-night-only comedy event especially for over-60s.

This fun-filled evening, held at Brisbane’s iconic Sit Down Comedy Club on Thursday 5 September, is the culmination of Starts at 60’s nationwide search for Australia’s Funniest Boomer.

Ten national finalists flown to Brisbane to compete for the title live on stage. Joining them are former KIIS 97.3 breakfast radio host Terry Hansen as MC and beloved local comedian Fred Lang as the headline act. Learn more here.

Meet the finalists

  • Andy Payne (Melbourne, VIC) – A recent graduate of Hard Knock Knocks Comedy School, Andy’s quirky observational humour has quickly gained recognition.
  • Queenie Gott (Maryborough, QLD) – A seasoned performer with experience on Australia’s Got Talent and at the Sydney Opera House.
  • Raelyn Flatters (Sydney, NSW) – At 76, Raelyn brings laughter to local events and was a winner at a comedy Gong Show on a Comedy cruise.
  • Denzo Moore (Gold Coast, QLD) – A comedian with over 25 years in the entertainment industry, Denzo’s observational humour is a hit.
  • Andy High (NSW south coast) – A 62-year-old comedian who combines youthful energy with reflections on aging.
  • Swetlana Jankowiak (Adelaide, SA) – Known for her outrageous Russian immigrant persona, Sveta, and her performances at various Fringe festivals.
  • Glenn Pearce (QLD) – A family-friendly ventriloquist with a cast of loveable characters.
  • Reg Such (NSW) – A comedian who blends storytelling with audience interaction, often pushing the boundaries with his cheeky antics.
  • Gareth Macready (Brisbane, QLD) – A seasoned performer with a rich background in TV, radio, and live shows in Japan.
  • Sharon Start (NSW) – A dedicated performer who uses clowning and entertainment to connect with audiences of all ages.
