Everybody’s Talkin about Glen Campbell’s last album

Glen Campbell and wife Kim before he was put into care.

Glen Campbell has produced many hits over the years. From Rhinestone Cowboy to Galveston and By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Campbell has released over 60 albums.

His latest one Adios is also his last. The 81-year-old multi grammy winner first started showing signs of demential in 2009 and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011. The songs for this album were recorded after  his Goodbye Tour in 2011 and 2012, and include guest appearances by Willie Nelson, Vince Gill and Campbells children Ashley, Shannon and Cal.

Wife Kim said the tour and album was an effort to preserve what magic was left after the illness started to take over. Talking to The Tennessean, Kim said  Glen started having memory lapses and started repeating himself . When he couldn’t find his way home from the gold course, a trip he had been making for years, she realised then something was really wrong. That’s when the diagnosis was made and the tour was planned.

Watch: Enjoy this hit from 1975.

As a final gift to fans Glen has released a cover of Everybody’s Talkin, off the album. The song was the theme of the 1969 movie Midnight Cowboy,  written and originally performed by Fred Neil with Harry Nilsson doing another version which won a Grammy award. This version by Glen was recorded in 2012 as he worked on his final album which also includes a list of other songs he loved but had not yet recorded.

Glen is now in a permanent care facility in Nashville. Kim says that even with dementia Glen, although he can no longer play a real guitar, will still sometimes ‘air guitar’ and tries to sing.

The album Adios is out on June 9.
