The Duchess of Sussex has given birth to a baby boy, with her delighted husband Prince Harry sharing the news on camera.

The couple initially made the announcement on their official Instagram page, sharing an image with the words, “It’s a boy” across it. The palace then made the official announcement on Monday (UK time) with a notice of birth going on display on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace, revealing Meghan had delivered a healthy baby at 05.26am at the couple’s home of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, London.

Harry and Meghan’s first child was born weighing 7lbs 3oz and new dad Prince Harry was with his wife as she gave birth, the palace confirmed in an official statement. They are yet to confirm a name.

Speaking on camera, a beaming Harry told news reporters: “I’m very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy earlier this morning, a very healthy boy. Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined.

“How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension, but we’re both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the love and support from everybody out there. It’s been amazing, so we just wanted to share this with everybody.”

He promised more details would be released in the coming days, as the world awaits a first look at the royal baby.

“This little baby is absolutely to die for,” he added. “I’m just over the moon.”

It is the first child for Meghan and Prince Harry, who married in a spectacular ceremony in May, 2018, and announced the duchess was pregnant five months later during an official royal visit to Australia.

The new royal baby is seventh in line to the throne, behind its cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis and father Prince Harry.

The Queen and the rest of the royal family passed on her congratulations, while Meghan’s mother Doria was by her side at Frogmore Cottage.

An official statement on the royal family’s Instagram page read: “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news.

The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage. Her Royal Highness and the baby are both doing well.”

Harry and Meghan are yet to reveal the name of their little boy, but punters have put their money on Arthur, Edward, James for a boy.

While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chose traditional royal names for their children, it’s believed Harry and Meghan have a little more flexibility in the moniker they choose for their own child because they are further removed from the throne.
