Prince Albert of Monaco tests positive for coronavirus

Prince Albert of Monaco has tested positive for coronavirus, palace officials have confirmed.

A statement from the palace confirmed the 62-year-old prince was tested on Monday morning and received confirmation of his diagnosis on Wednesday. “Prince Albert, who was tested this week, is positive for coronavirus,” the statement read.

According to a statement released by the palace, the father-of-two and son of Grace Kelly is in good health. “The Prince is being monitored by his doctor and treated by the specialists at the Princess Grace Hospital,” it read.

“Prince Albert continues to work from his private apartment and is in close contact with the members of his cabinet, government, and closest collaborators.

“His Serene Highness urges the people of Monaco to respect the measures of confinement and to limit contact with others to a minimum. Only the strict observance of these confinement measures will make it possible to stop the spread of the coronavirus.”

The prince isn’t the only public figure to have tested positive for coronavirus in recent weeks. Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were diagnosed with Covid-19 last week while staying on the Gold Coast. 

Hanks confirmed the news on social media last Thursday, revealing that he and Rita were tested after beginning to feel started to develop flu symptoms.

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia,” Tom wrote on Instagram at the time. “We felt a bit tired like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”

Meanwhile, Peter Dutton confirmed that he has been diagnosed with coronavirus last Friday afternoon, after waking up unwell on Friday morning.

“This morning I woke up with a temperature and sore throat,” Dutton said. “I immediately contacted the Queensland Department of Health and was subsequently tested for COVID-19.

“I was advised by Queensland Health this afternoon that the test had returned positive. It is the policy of Queensland Health that anyone who tests positive is to be admitted into hospital and I have complied with their advice.

“I feel fine and will provide an update in due course.”
