Nicole Kidman ruffles feathers on the red carpet in quirky monochrome gown

Awards season is upon us which means Hollywood’s biggest stars will be getting glammed up and posing on numerous red carpets over the coming weeks, culminating in the Academy Awards which typically take place around the end of February.

One star who rarely puts a foot wrong when it comes to style is Nicole Kidman, and the Aussie-born beauty showed off her daring taste on the red carpet once again on Friday as she stepped out in an eye-popping ruffled number at the 8th AACTA International Awards in Los Angeles.

The 51-year-old mum-of-four turned heads in the black and white gown which featured an extravagant ruffle design around the bodice, working its way around Nicole’s chest, back and shoulders.

While the top half of the actress’ dress was bold and daring, the lower half of the frock was far simpler, as a simple black A-line skirt fell softly to the floor from beneath the layered ruffles.

Nicole, who has been married to country singer Keith Urban since 2006, completed the elegant red carpet look with a simple black and pearl clutch bag and suitably glamorous make-up.

Nicole has been nominated for a number of top gongs at some of the most prestigious awards ceremonies this year, including Best Actress in a Drama at the Golden Globes for her role in Destroyer. And the Oscar-winning actress doesn’t have long to wait to find out if she’s won as the ceremony takes place on Sunday.

Kidman is also up for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Boy Erased at the Critics’ Choice Awards, but missed out on any nods for her role in DC movie Aquaman, which hit cinemas last month.

Nicole was also included in W Magazine’s ‘Best Performance Issue’ this week due to her roles in Destroyer and Boy Erased. She was featured in the latest issue of the magazine alongside the likes of fellow Aussie Margot Robbie, Mary Poppins Returns’ star Emily Blunt and Bohemian Rhapsody’s Rami Malek.

Nicole shared two images on her Instagram account on Friday, revealing the actress in two very unusual looks. The first saw her wearing an elegant black gown and glamorous white gloves, paired with a quirky black veil. However it was the second shot which was truly out of this world as it appeared to show Nicole dressed as some sort of insect, dressed head to toe in white.

She captioned the post: “Is this the real life or is this just fantasy? Honored [sic] to be included in @Wmag’s Best Performances Issue.”
