Julie Bishop took inspiration from the 1930s for her stylish race day ensemble, sporting a pair of stand-out black and white polka-dot wide leg pants and a flowing white blouse.

The former minister for foreign affairs turned heads with her classy and fashionable look at Derby Day events in Melbourne, proving her sense of style certainly hasn’t gone out the window since stepping away from politics. With her hand on her hip, Bishop posed confidently for photos on Saturday, not letting the gloomy weather get her down, with a big smile spread across her face.

Pulling together the perfect outfit for the first racing event this month, the 63-year-old paired the eye-catching ensemble with a black and white striped hat and a matching handbag thrown over her shoulder. Meanwhile, she accessorised with some large gold hoop earrings and added a pop of colour with pink nail polish.

Just like the many other fashion-forward attendees at this year’s Derby Day, Bishop took to social media to share some snaps from the day, including one of her with partner David Panton. The two looked picture perfect in the photo, with Panton sporting a trendy grey suit, striped shirt and polka-dot tie.

“So much fun judging @myer #Fashionsonthefield #DerbyDay #MyerSpringRacing,” she captioned the post.

Also making an appearance at the event was Australia’s favourite female champion jockey, Michelle Payne. The 34-year-old looked sensational in a black metallic top with shoulder cut-outs and a plunging neckline, which she paired with a stunning floor-length tulle skirt.

Breaking up the black ensemble, Payne accessorised with a black and white clutch, and a white skinny belt around her waist, which showed off her incredible figure. Meanwhile, she sported studded heels and kept her locks away from her face in a up-do complete with a bejewelled headband.

Not to take away from her stylish outfit, the champion jockey kept with a natural makeup look, including a light pink lip and a swipe of blush on her cheeks.

While Payne has been busy promoting a movie on her life, ‘Ride Like a Girl’, Bishop has also had a busy schedule of events. The former pollie  pulled out all the stops for the 2019 Telethon’s Lexus Ball in Perth recently, wearing a floor-length emerald green ball gown by Velani, complete with huge skirt and a bow-style tie on the side. While the one-shoulder dress clinched in at the waist, it ended with a slight train round her feet.

She coupled the dress with a thick silver bracelet and matching earrings, while the ex-pollie wore her hair spiked back in a freshly blow-dried do. Posing for photos with her partner David Panton, Julie looked a million dollars for the star-studded bash.

Describing the event as “magical”, Julie wrote on Instagram: “Catching up with friends, having a great time while raising record sums $$ for @telethon_kids and 50 other beneficiaries. The generosity of Western Australians is legendary!”

And she was joined there by PM Scott Morrison and his wife Jenny, who once again transformed in a very bright dress for the event. While Morrison himself chose a traditional black tux, Jenny stood out in a vibrant red number.

Wearing her hair in loose waves, she looked beautiful as she joined Julie and more inside. And sharing a photo with his wife on his own Instagram, Morrison wrote: “Excited to be at @telethon7 Perth with Jen! The Government is giving $2.5 million to help Aussie kids in need. Over five decades, Telethon has raised over $306 million. What a wonderful achievement.”

The Morrisons reportedly surprised the crowd at the event as they donated $2.5 million on behalf of the entire government.
